Explore Shawnee Forest Country!

Golconda's downtown district is on the National Register of Historic Places. It's architectural style is Late Victorian and is best know for significance between 1800 and 1920s.

Take a walking tour of the historic town and the elegant estates on the bluffs overlooking the Ohio River, and envision a way of life that has crossed a century of time untouched.

Call ahead to tour the Pope County Historical Society museum, housed in a historic building that was built in 1906 and first served as a hardware store. The museum preserves furniture and personal items that trace the lives of the county’s first settlers. (618) 683-3050

Built in the 1890s, the mansion is now the Riverview Mansion Hotel, a full service hotel backing to the Ohio River. Enjoy the carefully thought out rooms with fine Victorian style features. Enjoy local beer and wine at the hotel’s Levee Lounge and dine at the new Fork N Cork Bistro.

Horseback riding, hiking and cycling can be enjoyed throughout the local area. Golconda is located on the National Cross Country Bike Trail, the Ohio River Scenic Byway, the Trail of Tears National Historic Trail, and is the destination of the annual River-to-River Relay.
