First State Bank / Greek Revival Architecture

The 5 column bank has seen it all, from floods to becoming a residence during the civil war. Many people can't help but take pictures of the bank, and many enjoy taking selfies at this location.

Built during the grandiose days of ‘internal improvements’, with four stories and a five-columned portico. Built 1838-1840 at a cost of $80,000. The building was sold during the Civil War to Thomas S. Ridgway for $6,500 when it was feared rebel forces would overrun the town. It has been owned since 1940 by the State of Illinois.

Tours the 1st & 3rd Sundays from May through October – 1p-4p
